What determines the value of an action
As Nietzsche highlighted, the value of an action is not what we see, however what we don’t see. The value of an action lies into its intention. May be the intention is one layer covering the real value of an action. For example people drink alcohol to get high. But getting high is not actually the real reason for drinking but something else we don’t see. People drink so they can be fearless and be able to say and do whatever they have been scared of.
May be also all those are not enough to find the real reason and value of that action of drinking. May be people drink to get confident, to gain confidence to do and say all those things they’ve been scared of touching in their lives. In my opinion, I think that’s why it should occur to all of us humans that judging someone from looking at what he/she is doing or saying is not enough. A little understanding might be helpful to make a little close to right judgement. Which also leads to this idea that it is not worth giving advice to someone who hasn’t asked for it because what do you know about them or their situation?
You might give an advice which is not necessarily bad or not applicable to the situation, but, the point is that you are giving an advice to the surface of the real bottom side of the iceberg. However, if someone asks for advice, then you have an opportunity to ask whatever details about the situation that will lead you to understanding the real issue and be able to provide your advice accordingly.
I am saying this because I have provided good advices to people from my judgement of their situation. And I would sense they think the advice is good for the situation that they made me see or that is visible to everyone but not really for the real scenario of what’s going on in their lives or their situations. You can always tell if your words are landing if you look someone in the eyes.
Nietzsche also talked about this idea which I am paraphrasing as every profound soul or life needs layers. The moment you discover the layer, go on, because that’s not the real thing. The point is that whatever you see is not all as described by Daniel Kenhman in his famous book ‘thinking fast, and slow’. It is not all, try to look for more information or details.
I have been also thinking about the idea that human being’s life is so complex that we don’t understand a thing about anyone’s life or situation until we are in the exact same situation; and unfortunately, even if we will be in the exact same situation, we can not understand or we are not going to experience the same thing as everyone has a different wiring; It’s strange to me that sometimes I think I don’t understand myself and obviously, that I don’t understand anyone else too. Everyone has a different life experience and what you have is what is best for you not what you wish it would have been. Then the bigger question is, ‘what determines what I experience in life as it is obvious that it is not certainly me? Complex, complex!
That’s the point of all the ideas here, we are called to investigate complex ideas and get to understand them where possible and keep exploring where it is not obvious to find a straight forward conclusion.
